Women's Volleyball Finishes 2-2 at 2007 Bomber Invitational

The New York University women's volleyball team, currently ranked #20 in the CSTV/AVCA Division III Coaches' Poll, defeated SUNY Oneonta and lost to top-ranked Juniata College on the second day of play at the 2007 Bomber Invitational at Ithaca College.

The Violets defeated the Red Dragons 30-18, 26-30, 30-23, 30-25 and fell to the Eagles 30-13, 30-20, 30-22 to finish the weekend 2-2.

Continuing her strong play, freshman Erin Noonan was named to the All-Tournament Team. She recorded a team-high 15 kills while adding four blocks against Oneonta, and finished with a team-best 46 kills for the weekend.

Senior Nicole Lubell also performed well, putting down 14 kills while hitting a team best .333 against the Red Dragons.

On the defensive side of the ball junior co-captain Stacy Goto recorded 23 digs against Juniata, an NYU rally-scoring record for a three-game match. For the weekend, Goto recorded 83 digs (5.53 per game).

On the first day of play, the Violets dropped the first game to St. John Fisher College 30-20, but bounced back to take the next three games 30-20, 30-16, 30-24.

Freshman Kasey Estes led the Violets with 16 kills while tacking on a team-high six service aces. Noonan put down 14 kills while hitting a team-best .419.

Goto dug up a team- and career-high 26 digs.

Freshman Annie Baer took over the setting duties against the Cardinals and recorded 47 assists along with two service aces.

In the first match Friday, NYU fell to the Rochester Institute of Technology 3-1.

The Violets came out strong to begin the match, taking the first game 30-24. The Tigers went on to take the next three games, however, 30-28, 30-24, 30-19.

Noonan put down a team-high 12 kills while, freshmen Julia Rickert and Bethany Burr both contributed 10.

The Violets' co-captains led the way on the defensive side of the ball, as Goto recorded a team-high 18 digs, while fellow junior Caitlin Grundman had 12. Senior Samantha Bivens contributed 10.

The Violets return to action next weekend when they play in the RIT Invitational. NYU again faces St. John Fisher in their first match of the Invitational. First serve is scheduled for 4pm on Friday, Sept. 14.
