04/16/08
New York University placed the trio of senior Jonathan Wintermeyer, junior Devin Zolnowski and freshman Francis Hodgson on the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division III All-Star men's volleyball team.
Overall, 10 players were selected to the EIVA Division III squad. In addition to the Violets' threesome, Springfield College had four honorees and Juniata College put three on the squad.
A 6-6 tri-captain and middle blocker from Atascadero, CA, Wintermeyer is now a four-time All-EIVA Division III All-Star, having been named to the First Team in 2007 and to the Second Team in 2005 and 2006. He was named an American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Division III First Team All-American and was also a Second Team All-EIVA pick.
In 28 regular-season matches, Wintermeyer was averaging career bests in points (4.46) and kills (3.48) per game, while also hitting a personal- and team-best .418 and averaging 1.08 blocks per game. He was named the AVCA Division III Player of the Week on March 17.
A 6-5 junior tri-captain and outside hitter from Bridgewater, NJ, Zolnowski garnered Second Team EIVA All-Star honors last season. This year, he is averaging team highs of 4.82 points and 4.16 kills per game, while also accumulating 1.58 digs and 0.66 blocks per game.
A 6-6 freshman middle blocker from Surf City, NJ, Hodgson was a Second Team AVCA Division III All-American honoree. He is averaging 2.05 kills and a Violet-leading 1.32 blocks per game, while also hitting at a team-high .425 clip. On Feb. 25, Hodgson was named the AVCA Division III Player of the Week.
The trio of Wintermeyer, Zolnowski and Hodgson helped the Violets go 21-7 in the regular season and earn a EIVA/NCAA playoff invitation -- the program's first since 2005.
