AVCA Division III All-America Teams
One of the most successful seasons in school history led to the New York University men's volleyball team producing a pair of American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-Americans.
Senior middle blocker Jonathan Wintermeyer became just the fourth NYU First Team All-American ever, and the first since Chris Schmidt in 2006. Meanwhile, freshman middle blocker Francis Hodgson earned Second Team All-America honors.
A 6-6 product of Atascadero, CA, Wintermeyer ascended from a Second Team selection in 2007. The senior tri-captain has helped NYU (21-7) earn a spot in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA)/NCAA Championships by averaging career bests in points (.446) and kills (3.48) per game. Wintermeyer is also hitting a personal- and team-best .418 while averaging 1.08 blocks per game.
Wintermeyer was named the AVCA Division III Player of the Week on March 17, and is a two-time EIVA Hay Division Player of the Week honoree (March 17, March 31).
Hodgson is enjoying one of the finest freshman campaigns ever recorded by a Violet. The 6-6 native of Surf City, NJ, is averaging 2.05 kills and a team-high 1.32 blocks per game. He is also hitting a NYU-best .425.
Earlier this season, Hodgson was named the AVCA Division III National Player of the Week (Feb. 25) and the EIVA Hay Division Player of the Week (Feb. 26)
