Senior tri-captain Jonathan Wintermeyer recorded a career-best 22 kills while hitting .613 as the New York University men's volleyball team defeated Vassar College 3-1 and swept the season series on Monday, March 24, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (17-6), currently ranked #2 in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, posted an easy win in game one, defeating the #4 Brewers (20-6) 30-21.

Games two and three proved more difficult as NYU fell behind early in both games. The Violets were able to rally for a 33-31 win in game two but fell in the third 30-28.

The Violets pulled it together in the fourth game, jumping out to a quick lead en route to a 30-21 final-game victory.

"It was another good win for us," said head coach Jose Pina. "We lost our intensity in the second and third games, but we got it together in the fourth. It shows we have to keep the intensity up to perform at the level we need to play at for the rest of the year."

Junior tri-captain Devin Zolnowski notched a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.

Sophomore setter Braden Fujikawa ran a strong offense, assisting 59 of the Violets' 65 kills while also notching five digs and four blocks.

To go along with his career high in kills, Wintermeyer also added seven digs and four total blocks.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior tri-captain David Tener inched ever closer to the the all-time rally-scoring digs record, putting up 12 in the match while going 38 for 38 on service receptions. Tener is now 32 away from tying Thom Stone's record of 662.

The Violets return to action this Wednesday night when they host EIVA Tait opponent East Stroudsburg University. NYU took the first meeting of the season between the two teams 3-1 on January 30. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
