The New York University men's volleyball team had its seven-match winning steak snapped with a 3-1 loss on the road to NCAA Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology on Tuesday, March 11, in Newark, NJ.

The Violets (14-6), currently ranked #3 in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, played the Highlanders (9-7) strong through the first games dropping the first 36-34 while winning the second 30-24.

NJIT proved too strong for NYU in games three and four however, taking the final two games 30-22, 30-17.

Leading the way on offense for the Violets for the second match in a row was sophomore outside Eric Chakeen, who notched a team-best 12 kills while adding five digs, a service ace and an assisted block.

Also in double-figures on offense was senior tri-captain Jonathan Wintermeyer, who recorded 11 kills along while hitting a team-high .398.

On the back line, senior tri-captain David Tener recorded a team high 11 digs for his sixth double-digit digs performance of the season.

The Violets return to the court on Thursday when they travel to West Haven, CT, to take on EIVA Hay opponent University of New Haven. The two teams met earlier this season with NYU taking the match 3-0. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
