The New York University men's volleyball team held Sacred Heart University to just 27 kills while putting down 46 of its own as it rolled to an easy 3-0 win on Sunday, March 2, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (13-5, 4-1 EIVA Hay), currently ranked #6 in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Top 15 Men's Coaches Poll, got ahead early against the Pioneers (1-9, 0-5 EIVA) and never looked back, taking the three games 30-17, 31-29, 30-20.

"It was a good win for us," said NYU head coach Jose Pina. "I was very happy that I had a chance to play the guys that don't usually get a lot of time, and I was glad that they stepped up and performed well."

Leading the way for NYU on offense was junior tri-captain Devin Zolnowski, who put down a team-high 19 kills while hitting .419.

Senior tri-captain Jon Wintermeyer also played well, putting down eight kills while hitting .636 with two blocks. Freshman Francis Hodgson added four kills and eight blocks.

On the back line, senior tri-captain David Tener had another strong match, recording 14 digs while going 14 for 14 in service receptions.

Junior Ilan Goldstein and freshman Ori Oren shared the setting duties. Goldstein recorded 10 assists and four digs in the first game while Oren put up 24 assists and dug up seven balls in the final two games.

The Violets return to action this Tuesday, March 4, when they travel to Newark, New Jersey, to take on EIVA Hay Division rival Rutgers-Newark. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
