Men's Volleyball Sweeps MIT En Route to Third Straight Victory

The New York University men's volleyball team out- killed the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 50-33 on its way to a 3-0 win on Saturday, in Cambridge, MA.

The Violets (10-5), currently #5 in the CSTV/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Men's Volleyball Top 15 Coaches Poll, was in control of the match throughout, defeating the #14 Engineers (11-8) 30-25, 30-27, 30-25, for their third straight victory.

"We played a good match," noted NYU head coach Jose Pina. "I was happy that most everyone got a chance to play. We did a good job finishing the week strong going into the heart of our EIVA Hay schedule next week."

Leading the way for NYU on offense were tri-captains senior Jonathan Wintermeyer and junior Devin Zolnowski, who each put down 12 kills. Wintermeyer hit .435 for the match with two service aces, two digs and six blocks. Zolnowski hit .500 with seven digs in just two games.

Junior Ilan Goldstein and sophomore Braden Fujikawa split the setting duties. Fujikawa posted 29 assists with two digs and an ace in two games, while Goldstein added 15 assists, an ace and three digs in the final game.

The Violets return to the court this Wednesday, February 27, when they host #8-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology. NYU will look to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Ducks earlier this season. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
