Senior captain Jonathan Wintermeyer recorded a team-high 12 kills while junior captain Devin Zolnowski added 10 of his own. However, it wasn't enough as the New York University men's volleyball team succumbed to NCAA Division III rival Juniata College 3-0 on Friday in Huntingdon, PA.
The Violets (6-3), currently ranked #6 in the CSTV/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Men's Volleyball Coaches Poll, played the EIVA (Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) Tait Division and third-ranked Eagles (3-1) close throughout the match but eventually fell in straight games 30-28, 34-32, 30-22.
In addition to his team-high kill tally, Wintermeyer added a team-best three blocks along with two digs.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior captain David Tener continued his strong play, recording a match-high eight digs while going a perfect 30 for 30 in reception attempts.
Junior setter Ilan Goldstein recorded 37 assists while putting up four digs and adding two assisted blocks.
The Violets, currently 0-1 in the EIVA Hay Division, continue their Pennsylvania road trip tomorrow, February 2, when they travel to Loretto, PA, to take on NCAA Division I St. Francis University. The Red Flash is also a member of the EIVA Tait division.
