
Men's Volleyball Wins at East Stroudsburg

Junior tri-captain Devin Zolnowski notched a career- high 25 kills as the New York University men's volleyball team continued its best start since 2002, defeating Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Sivision rival East Stroudsburg University 3-1 on Wednesday in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
The Violets (6-2), currently ranked #6 in the CSTV/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll, dropped the first game to the Warriors (1-1) 30-27, giving up a combined 21 points on attack and service errors.
The team rebounded in game two with a 30-27 win. Zolnowski put down six kills in the frame while fellow captain, senior Jonathan Wintermeyer, added four blocks.
In a marathon game three that saw 18 ties along with nine lead changes, NYU came out victorious 35-33. Zolnowski once again led the way, putting down seven kills, while senior captain David Tener added seven digs.
The Violets came out firing in game four, taking the lead on the first point of the game and never relinquishing it en route to a 30-19 clincher.
In addition to his 25 kills, Zolnowski added six digs, four blocks and two service aces.
Wintermeyer also finished in double-digits with 15 kills while hitting a team-best .385. He also had a team-high eight blocks and added a service ace.
On the defensive side of the ball, Tener notched a game-high 17 digs while going a perfect 31-31 on service receptions. Junior setter Ilan Goldstein was also strong defensively, recording 10 digs while putting up 51 assists, two blocks and two kills.
The Violets return to action this Friday, February 1, when they travel to Huntingdon, PA, to take on EIVA Tait foe Juniata College. The Eagles are currently ranked #3 in the AVCA Division III poll.
