
Men's Volleyball Falls in First Hay Division Match to Rutgers-Newark

The New York University men's volleyball team fell in its first Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Hay Division match 3-0 to Rutgers University-Newark Tuesday night at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
Ranked #6 in the CSTV/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, the Violets (5-2) played the Scarlet Raiders (2-1) close in all three games but fell short 30-28, 37-35, 32-30.
Leading the way on offense for NYU were captains junior Devin Zolnowski and senior Jon Wintermeyer. Zolnowski recorded a team-best 14 kills along with three digs and a service ace while Wintermeyer notched 11 kills, hitting an impressive .450 while adding two blocks and a service ace.
Middle blocker Francis Hodgson continued his impressive freshman campaign by recording four kills on seven swings while adding three blocks bringing his season total to 34 through seven games.
On the defensive side of the ball captain David Tener had a strong outing, recording a team-best eight digs while going 25-for-25 in service receptions. Setter Ilan Goldstein also had a strong defensive match, recording seven digs while putting up 34 assists.
The Violets return to action next Wednesday, January 30, when they travel to East Stroudsburg, PA, to take on EIVA Tait opponent East Stroudsburg University. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
