The New York University women's track and field team secured a pair of sixth-place finishes on Friday, the first day of the 2008 University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Freshman Kiley Bunce's 1.41-meter high jump proved good enough for sixth place in that event, earning the Violets their first point of the day.

NYU's distance medley relay also took sixth, clocking a time of 10:38.48, thanks to the quartet of freshman Katherine Wang, senior co-captain Beatrix Jackson, freshman Natalie Halpern and senior Natalie Wilson.

Overall, the Violets are in sixth place with two points heading into Saturday's final day of events.

Senior Beatrix Jackson is coming off a season-best time of 1:20.99 in the 500-meter dash at the NYU Fastrack Invitational on Feb. 29, which was just .64 seconds away from eclipsing the Violets' all-time indoor mark.

In addition, sophomore Maureen Griffin threw a season-best heave of 10.03 meters in the shot put, an improvement over her previous best throw of 9.73 meters.
