Several members of The New York University women's track & field team set season-best marks as the Violets competed at the Smith College Tartan Invitational in Northampton, MA, on Saturday.

Senior captain Beatrix Jackson had the team's best finish of the day, taking third place in the 400 meters. Her time of 1:03.96 was almost one second faster than her top showing (1:04.59) thus far this season.

Sophomore Caitlin Gibson posted a pair of fourth-place finishes. In the 55 meters, she ran a season-fastest 7.85 (her previous best time was 8.02). Gibson also teamed with sophomore Kathryn Shannon, freshman Caroline Tegzes and junior captain Joy Ekema-Agbaw to run a 1:54.53 in the 4x200-meter relay.

Another top performer for NYU was freshman Kiley Bunce, who took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 4.67 meters.

Overall, the Violets finished 12th in the 18 -team competition with 23 points. RPI captured first place with 154.5 points.

"We weren't worried about the team completion as much as we were concerned with improving on our individual performances," said NYU head coach Jef Smith. "Most of our athletes improved on their times, so I consider the day a success as we head into our state and conference meets."

The Violets return to the track on February 16 when they compete at the Cornell University Invitational in Ithaca, NY.
