Men's Track's Abdallah Wins 3K Crown at UAA Indoor Championships

Senior Hany Abdallah captured the 3,000-meter run to highlight New York University's performance on the final day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland.

After finishing second in the event as a junior, Abdallah breezed to the 3K title in a time of 8:27.46. It is the senior's third UAA title, as he won the 2007 Outdoor 10,000-meter crown and the 2005 Cross Country championship.

Overall, the Violets accumulated 14 points in the 3,000-meter run, continuing their tradition of long-distance excellence. Senior Michael Peroutka placed fourth in 8:43.57 to score four points, a year after he finished third in the event.

Senior Spenser Popeson also enjoyed a solid day for NYU, taking fifth in the 800-meter run finals (2:00.92) and sixth in the one-mile run (4:25.89).

Capping the final day of competition for the Violets was a sixth-place performance in the 4x400 relay. The quartet of junior Bernier Lauredan, Jr., senior Jean Blardony, junior Maciej Szelezak, and senior Nile Nahar-Brown hit the tape in 3:32.30.

Overall, NYU accumulated 25 team points to place sixth.
