Fresh off of winning the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship, New York University kicked off its 2008 men's indoor track and field indoor season at the Fordham University Invitational on Friday at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan.
There were several top-eight finishes, as well as a pair of top-three performances for NYU, as the Violets finished in 12th place overall.
Heading the list of performers for NYU was junior Bernier Lauredan, Jr., who won the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:31.24. Junior Spencer Popeson took seventh in the event in 2:33.94.
The Violets' other top-three finish was produced by junior Robert Joynt, who took third place in the 3,000m in a time of 8:53.62.
Freshman Dan Bravato had an impressive collegiate debut, taking eighth place in the shot put with a heave of 11.60m.
"Overall it was a good, low-key meet," said head coach Nick McDonough. "Bernier had a good start coming back from being abroad, and this served as a good warm-up for the remainder of the season."
