Women's Tennis' Holly Smith Earns UAA Athlete of the Week

New York University senior Holly Smith was tabbed as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on Oct. 22.

Smith won the individual #3 singles title as the New York University women's tennis team finished in third place overall at the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Tennis (NYSWCAA) Championships, which were held Friday-Sunday, October 19-21, at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Smith beat four opponents without dropping a set to win the flight. In Sunday’s final, she upset top-seeded Kelly Barnett of Vassar College 6-0, 6-1 to claim the title. Her performance helped the Violets to a 38-point total in finishing behind only Vassar (50 points) and Skidmore (44) in the 16-team competition.
