
Holly Smith Wins Consolation Title at ITA Northeast Tennis Championship

Senior Holly Smith won both of her matches on Sunday and captured the consolation singles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Championship, which was held Friday-Sunday at William Smith College in Geneva, NY.
Smith defeated Katherine Ketigian of SUNY New Paltz 8-4, then posted an 8-2 win over Allyson Kingman of the Stevens Institute of Technology to capture the consolation crown.
Smith also teamed with fellow senior Meggie Smith (no relation) and advanced to the doubles semifinals. The #3-seeded duo defeated the tandem of Rachel Leonard and Stephanie Parvan from Nazareth College (8-2) in the quarterfinals on Friday, but lost in Saturday's semifinal to the #2 tandem of Amanda Berg and Stef Harr of The College of New Jersey (8-5).
In the championship singles bracket, NYU senior Stephanie Tu was defeated by #6-seeded Lia Weiner of the University of Rochester, 6-0, 6-1, while #15-seeded Meggie Smith was defeated by #2 Amanda Berg of The College of New Jersey (6-2, 6-4).
NYU senior co-captain Jaclyn Manning lost to Eri Yamakawa of SUNY New Paltz 8-6 in Saturday's consolation singles bracket.
"Overall, I thought it was a good performance by our players," said NYU head coach Horace Choy. "This should be a solid building block for the rest of our season."
