
Men's Tennis Seeded #5 for UAA Championship

The New York University men's tennis team begins competition at the 2008 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship this Friday, April 25, as the #5 seed.
Currently ranked #14 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region (ITA Rankings), the Violets (8-8) enter the UAA Championship winners of six of their last eight matches. In their most recent outing, on April 19, the Violets fell to NCAA Division II opponent Adelphi University 5-4.
The UAA announced the rankings on Wednesday, April 23:
#1 - Washington University-St. Louis
#2 - Emory University
#3 - Carnegie Mellon University
#4 - University of Chicago
#5 - New York University
#6 - Brandeis University
#7 - Case Western Reserve University
#8 - University of Rochester
Senior co-captain Mikhail Gurevich has posted the Violets' top singles mark so far this season (17-5) and is currently ranked #12 in singles in the Northeast Region. Junior co-captain Calvin Chou (13-8) and sophomore P.J. Marranca (12-6) both also have double-digit win totals for the season.
NYU and first-year head coach Horace Choy look to build on a 1-2 record and sixth place finish in the Championship in 2007. The squad will face the University of Chicago, the #4 seed, in the first round of the tournament at 9:00 am.
