
Women Finish Third at UAA Swimming & Diving Championships

The New York University women's swimming & diving team finished in third place at the 2008 University Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships, which were held in Rochester, NY, Wednesday-Friday, February 20-23.
The Violets accumulated 1,260 points, just 24 behind second-place Washington University (1,284). Emory University won the championship with 1,951 points.
On Saturday, NYU's top finisher was senior captain Dorota Sawicz, who took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:10.86.
On Friday, the Violets registered their only victory of the meet, as junior Samantha Ashby won the 100 breaststroke in a NYU record and NCAA "B" cut time of 1:07.21. She was also a member of NYU's third-place 200 medley relay (NYU record 1:49.16; "B" cut) along with sophomore Patricia Beck, freshman Chelsea Pfohl and senior Janelle Szary.
Also on Friday, freshman Chelsea Pfohl placed second in the 100 fly with a NCAA "B" cut time of 58.20.
On Thursday, the Violets produced four four-place finishes and made two NCAA "B" cuts..
Szary took fourth place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24:64, while Beck was fourth in the 200 IM (2:11.43)
There were also a pair of fourth-place finishes for NYU in the relays.
In the 200 free relay, freshman Emma Magura, junior Cait Albrecht, Pfohl, and Szary recorded a time of 1:39.33, while Beck, Ashby, Pfohl, and Szary posted a NCAA "B" cut time of 3:59.86 in the 400 medley relay.
Another "B" cut was turned in by the fourth-place 400 free relay team of Beck, sophomore Danielle Hildebrandt, Pfohl, and Szary (3:38.19).
Sophomore Kacey McCaffrey also earned NCAA "B" cuts with her 5:08.23 time in the 500 free and her 17:47.18 time in the 1,650 free.
