In its last home meet of the season, the New York University women’s swimming and diving team defeated The College of New Jersey 169-128 on Saturday at the Palladium Athletic Facility.

Sophomore Patti Beck led the way for the Violets with an outstanding day that included first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.28), 200-yard backstroke (2:13.10), and as a member of the 200- yard medley relay team (1:52.20) along with freshman Chelsea Pfohl, junior Samantha Ashby and senior Janelle Szary.

Pfohl was also an individual winner, taking the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.40). Ashby won both the 100- yard breaststroke (1:09.17) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.10), while Szary was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (25.47).

Junior Melanie Peters was instrumental in the Violets' victory, capturing both the one- and three- meter-dives, with scores of 273.30 and 250.05, respectively.

“I want to acknowledge all of our seven seniors, each of whom were team members for all four years,” said head coach Lauren Beam. “They have helped build the program into what it is. We are undefeated going into the conference schedule and have the momentum to carry us through.”

Michelle Del Rio, Amy Gartman, Christine Hooper, Alexandra Kawecki, Virginia Milano, Dorota Sawicz, and Janelle Szary are the seniors who competed in their final home meet in purple and white today.

The Violets, now a perfect 10-0 this season, return to action on Saturday, February 2, against Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
