Women's Diving Peters Captures UAA Athlete of the Week

New York University junior Melanie Peters earned the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Diving Athlete of the Week Honors on Oct. 22 after an outstanding week.

Peters went three for three in diving competitions for the week as the Violets defeated Division II Queens College and finished first overall at the 2007 NYU Invitational. In NYU’s 164-104 victory over Queens on Oct. 17, she blew away the competition as she won the one-meter diving event with a score of 395.25. At the NYU Invitational, which took place Oct. 19-21, Peters took the three-meter event with a score of 239.25, edging out the second-place finisher by 1.05 points.

She finished her weekend by winning the one-meter event with an NCAA-qualifying total of 255.90. Her performance was instrumental in the Violets accumulating 1,263.50 points and easily defeating SUNY Cortland (960.50) and Stevens Institute of Technology (587) at the Invitational.
