
Women's Swimming & Diving Takes First Place at NYU Invitational

The New York University women's swimming and diving team continued its dominance on the second day of the NYU Invitational, taking seven of nine swimming events, and defeating SUNY Cortland and Stevens Institute of Technology,
The competition was held on Friday and Saturday, October 19-20, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.
The Violets won 13 of 17 swimming events and both diving events to rack up 1,263.50 total points. The Red Dragons of Cortland followed in second place with 960.50 points, while the Ducks of Stevens finished in third with 587 points.
Freshman Alexandra Strzempko continued her winning ways, taking two individual events on the second day of the competition: the 1,650 freestyle (18:22.13) and the 200 freestyle (2:00.86), to finish the weekend with four victories, three of which were individual victories.
Sophomore Patricia Beck also continued her successful weekend by winning the 400 IM in a time of 4:48.31. She was also a member of the first-place 200 medley relay team (1:54.03) and the top- finishing 400 free relay team (3:49.10). Over the course of the weekend, Beck won two individual events and was a member of four winning relay teams.
NYU was also aided by the talents of freshman Chelsea Pfohl, who took the 100 backstroke in 1:00.86 and was also a member of the first-place 200 medley relay team. During the invitational, Pfohl won three individual events and was a member of two top finishing relay teams.
In the one-meter diving event, junior Melanie Peters bested the competition once again, winning the event with an NCAA-qualifying score of 255.90. She also took the three-meter event with a score of 239.25.
The Violets return to the pool next weekend when the team travels to Rochester, NY to participate in the University of Rochester Invitational.
