
Women's Swimming & Diving in First After Day 1 of NYU Invitational

The New York University women's swimming & diving team won seven of nine events and is in first place after the first day of competition of the 2007 NYU Invitational, which is being held Friday-Saturday, October 19-20, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.
The Violets currently top the field with 575 points. SUNY Cortland is in second place with 487 and Stevens Institute of Technology is in third with 317 points.
NYU sophomore Patricia Beck continued her strong start to the season, winning the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:13.95. She was also a member of the top- finishing 400 medley relay team (4:11.32) and the first-place 800 free relay team (8:13.36).
Freshman Chelsea Pfohl also had a strong first day of the invitational, winning the 200 IM in a time of 2:18.97 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:00.52. She was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay team.
Sophomore Danielle Hildebrandt and freshman Alexandra Strzempko were both double-winners for the Violets. Hildebrandt was a member of both top-finishing relay teams, while Strzempko was part of the 800 free relay and also took the 500 free in a time of 5:18.19.
In the diving competition, Violet junior Melanie Peters scored 239.25 points and edged out Amy Jones of Cortland by 1.05 points to take the three-meter diving event.
The 2007 NYU Invitational continues on Saturday with the 1,650 free competition beginning at 9am. The one-meter diving competition will begin a 11:30am with the rest of second day swimming events beginning at 1:30pm.
