NCAA Division III Championships Results
New York University freshman Chelsea Pfohl made the most of her first trip to the NCAA Women's Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing seventh and earning All-America honors with her performance in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Championships were held at Miami University in Oxford, OH, on Thursday-Saturday, March 13-15.
Swimming a lifetime-best and NYU-record time of 56.55 on Friday, Pfohl finished seventh in the nation in the finals of the event.
Pfohl also competed in two other events at the Championships.
On Saturday, she took 37th place in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 54.27. On Friday, Pfohl competed in the 100-yard backstroke and finished 25th in 59.42.
"Just an outstanding performance by a freshman," said NYU head coach Lauren Beam. "I am extremely proud and excited about what she accomplished."
Prior to her seventh-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly finals, Pfohl had finished eighth in her preliminary heat with a then-school record time of 56.99.
Pfohl's sprint eclipsed the previous Violet event standard of 57.67 set by Erika Norris in 2004.
"Chelsea really stepped up in that race, especially being a freshman," Beam exclaimed. "She had a great run."
Pfohl's All-American finish was worth 12 points for NYU in the overall team competition, which gave the Violets a 41st-place finish among the 53 teams that scored.
Kenyon College won the title with 566.5 points.
