01/29/08
New York University senior Brad Thornton was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after helping the Violets (8-0) to a 167.5-132.5 win over The College of New Jersey in their final home meet of the season on January 26.
The senior tri-captain from Hasting on the Hudson, NY, was also named Division III Swimmer of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
In his final career home meet before an animated home crowd, Thornton won three individual events, establishing pool records in two of them. Thornton’s times of 58.98 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1:57.51 in the 200-yard backstroke were the fastest times ever recorded at the Palladium Athletic Facility. Thornton added a win in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.01) to cap his performance.
This is the third career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for the 11-time ECAC Champion, 2005 UAA Rookie of the Year and nine-time Division III All-American.
The Violets return to action Saturday, February 2, against Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
