
Men's Swimming Closes Out Home Season With Victory Over TCNJ

Backed by a boisterous crowd, the New York University men’s swimming and diving team defeated The College of New Jersey 167.50-132.50 on Saturday at the Palladium Athletic Facility.
In the final home meet of his NYU career, senior tri-captain Brad Thornton did not disappoint, winning three individual events. He took the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.98, the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.51) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.01).
Junior Paul Hogan was also a multiple winner for the Violets, capturing both the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.94) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:55.86).
“This is the first time in recent history that we beat TCNJ,” said head coach Bob Sorenson. “The meets in the last three years have all been close and I’m very happy right now. It was a great job all the way around and I want to say congratulations to all the seniors for four great years of service.”
Other seniors that enjoyed their last home meet in purple and white were Roger Almeida, tri-captain Matt Ferreira, Andrew Guyton, Brad Hartstein, Shaughn Keating, Alexander Paul, Kevin Ryan, and Andrew Song.
In total, the Violets broke six pool records at the meet: 200 free (1:43.98), Andrew Lardiere; 500 free (4:41.94), Paul Hogan; 100 breast (58.98), Brad Thornton; 200 back (1:57.51), Brad Thornton; 200 fly (1:56.09), Eric Wang; 400 free relay (3:11.07), Pcholinski, Ferreira, Wolf, Lardiere.
The Violets, now a perfect 8-0 this season, return to action on Saturday, February 2, against Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
