Men's Swimming & Diving Topples Competition at NYU Invitational

The New York University men's swimming and diving team defeated SUNY Cortland and Stevens Institute of Technology, taking six of nine swimming events on the second day, to win the NYU Invitational, Saturday, October 20, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

The Violets won 12 of 17 swimming events, as well as the one-meter diving competition to accumulate 1,187 points. The Red Dragons of Cortland followed in second with 877 points, while the Ducks of Stevens totaled 717 points.

Junior Andrew Lardiere continued his dominant weekend, winning the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:48.49. He was also a member of the top finishing 200 medley relay team (1:40.59) and the first-place 400 free relay team (3:19.14). Over the course of the weekend, Lardiere took three individual events and was a member of three winning relay teams.

Junior Eric Wang also had a strong second day of competition, winning the 400 IM in a time of 4:12.79 and the 200 butterfly in 2:02.81. For the invitational, Wang won three individual events and was a member of the top finishing 800 free relay team.

In the diving competition, freshman Max Norris cruised to his first collegiate victory. He racked up 261.82 points, besting the competition by nearly 30 points.

The Violets return to the pool next weekend when the team travels to Rochester, NY, to participate in the University of Rochester Invitational.
