New York University's first postseason appearance in five seasons ended in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Soccer Metro Tournament with a 2-1 loss at Ramapo College on Wednesday in Mahwah, NJ.

Sophomore forward Nan Moses put a shot on goal with one second remaining that was saved as the #4-seeded Violets ended one of the finest regular seasons in school history with a record of 10-7-2.

Seeded fifth, Ramapo (11-8-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to Chrissy Giordano, who assisted on Melissa Demko's 12th score of the season at 34:03 to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead. Giordano hit the back of the net off a feed from Jessica Giordano to give Ramapo a 2-0 advantage.

That goal seemed to invigorate the Violets, who owned the better of play over the final 45 minutes with an 8-4 edge on shots. NYU finally broke into the scoring column at 76:22, when freshman forward Laura Palumbo scored unassisted for her fifth goal of the year.

However, NYU could not cross the goal line again despite owning edges on shots (14-12) and corner kicks (5-4).

Senior Katie Barnes made six saves in her final collegiate contest, and the Violets also posted a team save. Jessica DaRold posted six stops for Ramapo.

Despite the loss, the Violets enjoyed a breakthrough season, earning their first winning record and first postseason appearance since going 11-5-5 and reaching the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. In addition, NYU notched the fourth-most victories in a season and made just its fourth postseason appearance.

Meanwhile, the Violets' 10-0-1 start to the campaign was the best in school history. They were ranked as high as #19 by d3kicks.com, their first national ranking since finishing #12 in the final 2002 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas National Rankings.
