
Women's Soccer Predicted to Finish Seventh in UAA

The New York University women's soccer team, led by first-year head coach Werner T. Dasbach, has been predicted to finish seventh in the University Athletic Association (UAA) in the preseason poll conducted by the UAA coaches.
The Violets finished 6-10-1 last year after beginning the season 5-1, outscoring their first six opponents 15-2.
The University of Rochester, who has won 11 UAA women's soccer titles since the inception of the league in 1987, is the preseason favorite to capture the 2007 championship. The Yellowjackets garnered 46 total points and five first-place votes, edging out 2006 champion Washington University - St. Louis by two votes.
NYU is the coaches' pick to finish seventh, gathering 13 total points. The team returns senior goalkeeper Katie Barnes (1.46 career goals against average) and 2006 leading scorer junior Sarah Pillemer (5 goals, 3 assists, 13 points).
Rounding out the other five teams in order in the UAA, the University of Chicago (third, 38 points), Emory University (fourth, 32), Carnegie Mellon University (fifth, 23), Brandeis University (sixth, 18), and Case Western Reserve University (eighth, 10).
The Violets begin the 2007 campaign on Friday, August 31, when the team travels to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, to participate in the Skidmore Classic. NYU will face Skidmore at 4pm on Friday and Westfield State College at 2pm on Saturday.
