New York University senior defender Matthew Tier's diligence off the pitch was rewarded when the Violets' men's soccer standout earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 - College Division Second Team.

In order to be considered for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete needed to maintain a cumulative 3.2 grade point average.

A native of Highland Park, IL, Tier has earned a spot on NYU's Dean's List in each of his first six completed semesters. In addition, the economics major garnered University Athletic Association (UAA) Fall Sport All-Academic honors in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Tier is a four-year starter who has helped the Violets compile a 38-15-6 record over the past three seasons. This includes NYU's first-ever NCAA Championships appearance as a Division III program in 2006 as the team advanced to the Final Four.

During his career, Tier has helped NYU notch two shutout streaks of more than 500 minutes, including a school-record string of 571:01 in 2005.
