Senior All-American Jeritt Thayer produced his second consecutive two-goal outing, giving him 13 tallies this season, as the New York University men's soccer team stopped St. Joseph's College (Long Island) 4-0 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon in Patchogue, NY.
Junior forward Adam Dhanens added his career-best sixth score of the season, while junior midfielder Robert Keller also scored for the Violets (11-3-1), ranked #22 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas National Rankings and #23 by d3kicks.com.
NYU has won three straight matches.
Dhanens got NYU on the board off a feed from freshman midfielder Samir Ibrahim at 20:55, giving him a career high in goals while increasing his career single-season best offensive output to 17 points.
Thayer took over from there. The senior scored at 30:38 off freshman midfielder Anthony Tumbiolo's team-high eighth assist of the season, then again at 52:15 off junior forward Branden Neal's career-best seventh assist. At the end of the day, Thayer had 34 career goals and single-season career highs in goals and points (28).
Keller concluded the scoring with an unassisted tally at 69:48.
For NYU, junior Marek Urbanski started in goal and made one save in the first 70 minutes before yielding to freshman Matt Stieve, who did not face a shot over the final 20 minutes.
Michael Dougherty made eight saves and allowed four goals over 83:00 of work, while Hugo Sakamoto made one save and held NYU scoreless over the final 7:00.
NYU owned a 23-6 edge on shots and a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks.
The Violets return to the pitch Friday, Oct. 26, when they travel to Pittsburgh to face University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Carnegie Mellon University at 5:00 p.m.
