On the strength of its six-match undefeated streak, the New York University men's soccer team made substantial gains in a pair of national polls Tuesday.
The Violets (6-1-1) ascended eight spots to #12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas National Rankings, while also climbing two spots to #11 in the d3kicks.com Top 25 Poll.
NYU is 5-0-1 in its last six matches since a 2-2 draw against Richard Stockton College. This included a pair of shutout victories last week over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (2-0) and Baruch College (4-0) that extended the Violets' shutout streak to 329:49.
In addition to its ascent in the polls, NYU also saw two of its student-athletes collect weekly honors: junior goalkeeper Chris Wright (University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week - Defense) and All-American senior midfielder Jeritt Thayer (d3kicks.com Team of the Week).
The Violets return to the pitch Wednesday, Sept. 26, when they host intra-city rival Hunter College at 7 p.m. at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field.
