09/16/07

Sophomore midfielder Christopher Wolf made the most of his first game-winning goal, producing the only tally with 6:35 remaining as the New York University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University on Sunday afternoon in Willimantic, CT.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Wright put aside two shots for his first shutout of the season as the Violets (4-1-1) extended their undefeated streak to four matches. NYU is ranked #11 by d3kicks.com and #24 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas poll.

NYU got all of the offense it needed off a restart, when freshman Anthony Tumbiolo served up a ball to junior forward Adam Dhanens, who headed it outside the box to a waiting Wolf, who one-timed a shot into the net.

Tumbiolo now has a team-high six assists, while Dhanens has accumulated eight points (3 goals, 2 assists) in his last three matches.

Meanwhile, the Violet defense limited the Warriors to five shots in gaining a 10-5 edge. Wright made both of his saves in the first half.

NYU returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 19, when it hosts the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m. at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY.
