The New York University men's soccer program will begin its quest for another trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Final Four when it opens its season this weekend at the Stevens Institute of Technology College Classic in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Ranked #4 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas preseason poll and #8 by d3kicks.com, the Violets (15-4-4, 4-2-1 University Athletic Association) will face NCAA Division III tournament qualifiers Elizabethtown College (Saturday, Sept. 1, noon) and Stevens (Sunday, Sept. 2, 6 pm).

The match vs. Stevens will be available via webcast at www.empire8.tv.

NYU tied Stevens (#9 d3kicks.com, NSCAA/adidas) 1-1 in the NCAA Division III sectional semifinals last season, but advanced 3-1 on penalty kicks.

Much of the 2006 team returns for the Violets, including senior midfielder Jeritt Thayer, the UAA Player of the Year who garnered All-America honors from the NSCAA (Second Team) and d3kicks.com (Third Team). Thayer was NYU's first All-American in 37 years.

Thayer and senior defender Nicholas Palmer return as captains. Junior goalkeeper Chris Wright was a First Team All-Metropolitan Region selection, and earned UAA Honorable Mention along with junior forward Adam Dhanens.
