The New York University men’s soccer team will enter the 2007 season with its their first preseason top-25 rankings in program history. The Violets, led by head coach Joe Behan, are ranked #4 in the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division III Pre-Season Poll and are #8 in the d3kicks.com Top 25 Pre-Season Poll.
The #4 ranking in the NSCAA/adidas poll is equal to the highest ranking ever for the team. NYU finished the 2006 season ranked fourth in both the NSCAA/adidas and d3kicks.com polls after going 15-4-4 and advancing to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship semifinals in its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since being reclassified as a Division III team in 1982.
Three-time reigning NCAA Division III National Champion Messiah College topped both polls, receiving all but one first place vote (24 of 25) in the d3kicks.com poll.
The Violets will begin the 2007 campaign when they travel across the Hudson River to Hoboken, New Jersey, to participate in the Stevens Institute of Technology Tournament Sept. 1 and 2. The team’s home opener will be Sept. 7 against the City College of New York at 7:00 pm with the location to be announced.
