A pair of good final-round performances by freshman Theresa Apoznanski and senior captain Gretchen Johnson helped the New York University women's golf team card a season-round low 369 Sunday at the Vassar College Invitational.

On a chilly and occasionally rainy day, Apoznanski shot a second-round 83 and Johnson recorded an 84 on the par-72, 5,768-yard course to tie for fifth individually with two-round tallies of 169. They were the first-ever, top-five individual tournament finishes for the Violets' women's golf program.

However, both Apoznanski and Johnson finished nine stroke behind individual champion Hayley Milbourn (160) of Amherst College.

Overall, the Violets placed eighth out of 10 teams with a 745 as four of their five players improved their scores from Saturday. Williams College won the tournament with a two-round score of 685.

Apoznanski and Johnson proved especially good on the front nine, shooting a respective 39 and 40 during the first half of the day.

However, freshman Joanna Lau showed the biggest improvement of all the NYU women's golfers, shaving nine strokes off her Saturday score to produce a 96. With a tally of 201, she placed 41st.

Freshman Jea Min shot a two-round 206 after her second-round 106 to finish 47th. Junior Kate McAleer carded a 108 on Sunday, giving her a final showing of 220 that proved good for 49th.

NYU will conclude its first-ever season of women's golf Thursday, April 17, at the Dickinson College Invitational at Mayapple Golf Links in Carlisle, PA.
