Men's Golf Sits in Second After First Day at Babson

Despite a misty and blustery afternoon on the links, the New York University men's golf team sits one stroke off the lead at the Babson College Spring Opener on Sunday at the Atlantic Country Club in Plymouth, MA.

With a team total of 317 on the par-72, 6,728-yard course, the Violets are just one shot behind Salem State College (316) on the leaderboard heading into Monday's second and final round.

Senior Andrew Gihm paced NYU on the first day of competition with a six-over 78. Senior co-captain Adam Krainson and sophomore Michael Leibfried each carded a 79, while junior Alex Hopson produced an 81 to round out the scoring quartet.

Also competing Sunday for the Violets was senior co-captain Matt McGinnis, who tallied an 82.

"I thought we competed well today considering the Northeast weather conditions, with all the rain and the cold," NYU head coach Chris Kosiba observed. "We put outselves in position to win the tournament tomorrow. We can't ask for too much more."

NYU's championship quest will resume Monday morning at 8 a.m.
