Sophomore Michael Leibfried carded a four-over-par 76, leading the New York University men’s golf team in its first round of the spring season at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Invitational on Friday in Camp Lejeune, NC.

In addition to Leibfried’s team-high total, senior co-captains Adam Krainson (80) and Matt McGinnis (81), as well as junior Alex Hopson (81), were the Violets’ top-four scorers.

Senior Andrew Gihm posted an 83 for NYU, but his score was dropped.

Competing on the difficult Paradise Point Gold Course Friday, NYU compiled a team score of 318. However, the good news is that that Violets will compete on the less-challenging Scarlet Course for Saturday’s second day of competition.

“We have two days to recover from a day like today,” NYU head coach Chris Kosiba said. “We’ll hope to post better numbers tomorrow.”
