The New York University men's golf team finished in second place at the Tim Brown Invitational, which was hosted by Skidmore College at the Saratoga Spa State Park Championship Course in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Sunday and Monday, September 9-10.

The Violets were tied for fourth place heading into Monday's second round, but shot 292 to finish in the runner-up position.

Sophomore Mike Leibfried shot a two-under par 70 in the second round after carding a 72 on Sunday. His two-day total of 142 had him tied with Skidmore's Toby Spector after 36 holes.

Spector, however, birdied the first playoff hole to capture the individual title.

"Michael showed real consistency out there today. Very, very steady," said NYU head coach Chris Kosiba. "He hit a lot of fairways and greens, which makes it much easier to post a low score."

The 13th-ranked Skidmore "Gold" team won the competition with a six-under par total of 570 (284-286), while NYU finished at 602 (310-292).

Salem State College finished third (604, 304-300) in the 14-team invitational.

Senior Adam Krainson also contributed to the Violets' success, shooting a career-low three-under par 69 on Monday. He finished in a tie for 14th place, overall (81-69, 150).

Junior Alex Hopson shot 73 after an opening-round 81 to finish in a tie for 27th place.

NYU senior Matt McGinnis (78-80, 158, tied for 41st) and freshman Doug Hamilton (79-83, 162, tied for 51st) also competed for NYU.

After a rain-soaked opening round on Sunday, the precipitation finally ceased early in the second round.

"The rain made it a tough first day of play," Kosiba admitted. "However, our guys made the best of it under the poor weather conditions, and I'm not surprised that they played much better today."
