Golfing Pair Earn Academic All-America Honors
05/13/08
Seniors Andrew Gihm and Adam Krainson of New York University's men's golf team were named Division III Cleveland Golf Academic All-America Scholars in an announcement made on Tuesday, May 13.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships. An individual must also have a stroke average under 79.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Gihm and Krainson not only reached those standards, but exceeded them, as well.
Both NYU players were four-year team members, with Krainson serving as a co-captain during his senior year when he led the team with a 76.6 stroke average.
Krainson also competed in the NCAA Championships in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Gihm had a breakout season as a senior, recording a 78.6 average. He shot a career-best round of 70 (par) and a career-low, three-over-par 145 in a third-place finish at the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate/Metro Championship during the fall.
Both players also recently received the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement award, which is presented to students who have competed for a minimum of two years on an NYU intercollegiate team and are graduating with a grade point average of 3.3 (B+) or better.
Overall, 41 student-athletes from around the nation received Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors.
