
Women's Fencing Duo Begins Competition at NCAA Championships

A pair of New York University women’s fencers began competition in their first-ever NCAA Fencing Championships on Thursday at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.
Sophomore co-captain Alyxandra Mattison competed in women’s sabre and is 15th out of 24 fencers in her class. Meanwhile, freshman Sophia Ciaravino also sits in 15th place out of 24 competitors in women’s foil.
Both Mattison and Ciaravino compiled an identical winning percentage of .429, and both were victorious in six of their 14 bouts. Mattison’s indicator, which is total touches scored minus total touches received, is currently at minus-10, while Ciaravino’s indicator is at minus-16.
The fencers competed in four rounds of action today, and will complete their last three rounds tomorrow morning beginning at 9:30 a.m.
