
Women's Fencing Team Competes at Princeton University Duals

The New York University women's fencing team went 1-5 at the Princeton University Duals in Princeton, NJ, on Saturday.
In their first match of the day, the Violets dropped a 15-12 decision to the host Tigers despite a 5-4 NYU win in foil.
After falling to Penn State University 20-7, the Violets posted their first win of the day, a 20-7 decision over Vassar College. Each of NYU's three weapon teams -- epee (7-2), foil (8-1), and sabre (5-4) -- recorded victories.
In their fourth match, the Violets fell 19-8 to Temple University. However, the NYU foil team again produced a 5-4 victory.
Individually, the women's top performers through their first four matches were freshman Sophia Ciaravino (9-3 in foil), sophomore co-captain Alyxandra Mattison (5-6 in sabre), and sophomore Sam Frons (7-5 in epee).
After the setback against Temple, the Violets were edged by the University of North Carolina 14-13. NYU won the foil 7-2, while the Tar Heels captured the sabre (7-2) and earned the decisive advantage in the epee (5-4).
In their final match Saturday, the Violets lost 17-10 to Harvard University. The NYU women's epee team recorded a 5-4 victory to highlight the performance.
