McEntee Adds to Accomplishments in Women's Basketball Setback at Brandeis

Not lost in the 63-60 setback New York University's women's basketball team suffered in its regular-season finale Saturday at Brandeis University were the latest accomplishments from junior forward Jessica McEntee.

By scoring 19 points, McEntee tied the University Athletic Association (UAA) record for most points in a season with 301, equaling the previous standard established by Emory University's Mandy Jackson in 1991-92. In 14 UAA games, the 5-11 junior and 2007 UAA Player of the Year averaged 21.5 points in 14 Association contests.

On the Violets' charts, McEntee averaged 20.8 points in 25 regular-season games to eclipse the previous single-season points-per-game mark of 20.3 set by Marsha Harris in 1997-98. McEntee now has 1,210 points in her storied three-year career, pushing her ahead of Lauren D'Ambrosio (1,201; 1999-2001; 2002-04) for sole possession of eighth place all-time.

For good measure, McEntee added 12 rebounds and five assists in notching her 17th double-double of the season and 37th of her career. With 834 rebounds, the junior captain ranks sixth all-time in that category.

After going 9-for-10 from the charity stripe, McEntee created more distance atop the Violets' leaderboard in free throws (483), free throws attempted (592) and free-throw percentage (81.6). Her 196 conversions from the foul line in 2007-08 ranked second only to the school-record 217 recorded in 2006-07 when she earned All-America honors from three organizations (D3hoops.com, Kodak/Women's Basketball Coaches' Association, Women's DIII News).

McEntee is already the UAA all-time (253) and single-season (117) free throw leader.

Over the course of adding to her career statistical compilation, McEntee nearly helped NYU (14-11, 3-11 UAA) overcome a 51-34 deficit. She tallied 12 of her points in the final 8:24, making it a one-possession game for the Violets in the final seconds. However, McEntee missed a contested three-point try from 25 feet away just before the final buzzer.

Beyond McEntee's production, the Violets also received stellar play from a pair of promising freshmen. In her first extended playing time this season, forward Olivia Tromm poured in a career-best 12 points in 21 minutes. Meanwhile, Bianca Storts contributed 11 points, including three three-pointers, to go with four rebounds and two steals.

NYU shot 38.2% (21-for-55) from the floor, including 23.1% (6-for-26) from three-point range, and hit 12 of its 13 free-throw attempts (92.3%). The Violets also owned a 38-34 rebounding advantage.

Jessica Chapin scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half for the Judges (18-7, 9-5 UAA) and added six rebounds. Jaime Capra finished with 13 tallies and 10 boards. Kiersten Holgash also netted 13 points for Brandeis.
