02/18/08
New York University junior forward Jessica McEntee captured her third PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week award Monday.
McEntee enjoyed another stellar week for the Violets (14-8, 3-8 University Athletic Association), averaging 21.5 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 82.1% (23-for-28) at the charity stripe.
In all, McEntee has now earned 17 weekly accolades.
The 5-11 junior captain from Flushing, NY, started the week by playing all 40 minutes and finishing with a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) as NYU overcame a 20-point second-half deficit to defeat Carnegie Mellon University 59-49 on Feb. 15.
Two days later, McEntee tallied 26 of her game-high 30 points in the second half, while adding 13 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season, in a 73-65 loss to the University of Rochester. Her 26 second-half tallies set a Jerome S. Coles Sports Center record for points in a half.
McEntee climbed into 10th place on the Violets' career scoring list and now has 1,162 points after her performance against Rochester. She is 30 points away from surpassing Jennifer Miami (1,191, 1984-88) for ninth place and 40 points away from eclipsing Lauren D'Ambrosio (1,201; 1999-2001, 2002-04) for eighth.
In addition, McEntee also established the UAA career free throw record with 200, surpassing the previous mark set by NYU's Donna Layne (194, 1990-94).
