Erica Kaplan scored seven points in the final 53 seconds, including a three-pointer with :53 remaining to snap a 57-57 deadlock, as Emory University handed New York University a 64-61 defeat in University Athletic Association (UAA) women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The loss wasted another superb effort by junior forward Jessica McEntee, who finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds for the Violets (13-7, 2-7 UAA), who dropped their sixth straight contest.

Kaplan led the Eagles (11-9, 4-5 UAA) with 25 points, while LeShonda Lillard netted 16 and Kate Corkle scored 12.

In a contest featuring seven ties and eight lead changes, McEntee helped NYU knot the score twice in the final 3:07, including a jumper from the elbow with 1:21 remaining, before Kaplan's last-minute heroics helped Emory escape the Big Apple with the victory.

After McEntee missed a pair of three-pointer attempts with :28 and :23 remaining, Kaplan went 4-for-4 from the foul line to ice the game for the Eagles.

Sophomore Grace Carmen made her first career start for NYU and contributed nine points, as well as career highs in rebounds (7), blocks (3) and minutes (26).

NYU returns to action Friday, Feb. 15, when it hosts UAA rival Carnegie Mellon University at 8 p.m.
