Women's Basketball to "Think Pink" for Carnegie Mellon Game on Feb. 15
02/12/08
The New York University Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the NYU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, will host a “Think Pink” night on Friday, Feb. 15.
“Think Pink” is a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on college campuses and in communities. More than 900 schools nationally are participating in this program.
The NYU men’s and women’s basketball teams will play host to University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. In addition to the “Think Pink” activities taking place, the NYU athletic department will also be hosting a Tear It Up! promotional event that evening.
The NYU women’s game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.
“We saw this as an opportunity to combine one of our successful promotional programs with a terrific cause,” said Associate Director of Athletics Noah LeFevre. “We plan to draw over 2,500 undergraduate students for the games and have it be a positive experience for our student body and everybody involved in the WBCA "Think Pink" program.”
Special pink Tear It Up! t-shirts will be available to NYU students for a suggested $5 donation. All NYU students in attendance will also receive free food, Tear It Up! temporary tattoos and other giveaways during the course of the doubleheader.
Pink Tear It Up! t-shirts will also be available on sale for $15 for non NYU students. All proceeds collected at the basketball games will go to benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
This will be the last basketball Tear It Up! event of the year for the Violets and it is recommended that all spectators arrive early to secure a seat.
In addition to the basketball doubleheader against Carnegie Mellon being a "Think Pink" and Tear It Up! event, LiveStats and audio coverage will be provided free of charge.
