#3/4 Women's Basketball Overcomes Carnegie Mellon, 50-38

Powered by the low-post combination of juniors Jessica McEntee and Megan Fox, the nationally ranked New York University women's basketball team pulled away for a 50-38 victory over University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday at Skibo Gymnasium in Pittsburgh.

McEntee scored 14 of her 21 points in the second half and also grabbed 10 rebounds to earn her eighth double-double for the Violets (13-1, 2-1 UAA). Fox added eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

NYU is ranked #3 by D3hoops.com and #4 in the USA Today ESPN Division Coaches poll.

Overall, the Violets limited Carnegie Mellon to 23.7% (14-for-59) shooting, including 12.5% (2-for-16) from beyond the arc, in holding its eighth opponent this season below 50 points. Sunday marked the second occasion where they kept an opponents beneath the 40-point barrier.

Stacy Aleski tallied 11 points to lead the Tartans (7-7, 0-3 UAA).

NYU led 24-17 at the half, but upped its lead to 32-20 as it kept Carnegie Mellon off the scoreboard for a span of 7:12 (18:14-11:02). Fox and McEntee each scored four points during the Violets' 8-0 run, as they led by double digits most of the remainder of the contest.

NYU owned a 52-45 edge on the boards, but shot just 30.2% (19-for-63) from the field.

The Violets return to action Friday, Jan. 25, when they host Washington University at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center at 6 p.m.
