01/02/08
Based on an 8-0 start to its season, New York University's women's basketball team climbed one spot to #4 in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches' Poll.
The Violets are also ranked #4 in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll.
In its last time on the hardwood, NYU stormed past Stevens Institute of Technology, 76-65, on Dec. 30 at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. Freshman guard Chelsea Blake scored a career-high 21 points, dished out a personal-best seven assists and snared five rebounds.
Also in the victory for the Violets, junior forward Jessica McEntee became the program's all-time leader in free throws, surpassing the previous mark of 355 set by Marsha Harris (1994-98). McEntee, who tallied 19 points and 16 rebounds, has hit 357 of her tries from the charity stripe.
NYU has won seven of its first eight games by 10 points or more, and has been ranked among the top-eight in both polls all season.
The Violets will return to action Friday, Jan. 4, when they host Johns Hopkins University at 6 p.m. at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center.
