Women's Basketball Ranked #2 in Preseason DIII News Poll

10/26/07

Fresh off a trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four, the New York University women's basketball team earned a #2 ranking in the 2007 Women's D III News Preseason Top-25 Poll.

In addition, the Violets (27-4, 12-2 University Athletic Association) were selected to win the UAA. Junior forward Jessica McEntee, named an All-American by three organizations as a sophomore (Kodak/Women's Basketball Coaches Association, d3hoops.com and Women's D III News), was selected as the UAA preseason Player of the Year after being named the Association's top player last season.

In 2006-07, NYU reached the NCAA Division III Final Four for the third time and tied for the second most victories in school history while earning a share of its sixth UAA championship under now 21st-year head coach Janice Quinn.

NYU reached its first Final Four in 1995-96, then returned the following season and won its only National Championship on its home floor.

Quinn was named Coach of the Year by the National Invitational Tournament (NIT)/Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) and New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA). She and assistant coaches Chris Kosiba, Stefano Trompeo and Levester Thompson, Jr., captured UAA Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

McEntee (16.9 ppg, 12.5 rpg) became the first Violet in 15 years to average a double-double. She was also named the d3hoops.com East Region Player of the Year, as well as the NIT/MBWA and NYSWCAA Player of the Year accolades.

NYU opens its 2007-08 campaign on Friday, Nov. 16, when it hosts Trinity College (CT) in the first round of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament at 6 p.m.
