Despite getting a second consecutive double-double from junior John Mish, New York University succumbed to the University of Chicago 81-62 in University Athletic Association (UAA) men's basketball action Friday night at the Ratner Athletic Center in Chicago.

Mish tallied 17 points and tied his career high with 13 rebounds for the Violets (15-8, 6-6 UAA), while sophomore Keith Jensen netted 13 in the loss.

Chicago (16-7, 9-3 UAA) got a career-high 30 points, including 23 in the first half, from Nate Hainje, who also snared 12 rebounds.

NYU pulled within 60-50 on a Jensen trifecta with 10:06 remaining, but went the next 3:54 without a point as the Maroons put the game away with a 17-4 surge.

Chicago claimed control from the outset, seizing an 8-0 advantage just 2:32 into the action. Just 5:32 into the half, the Maroons held a 15-1 cushion as they canned seven of their first eight tries from the floor.

Hainje was just heating up, though, as he scored 13 of his 23 first-half points in helping his team grab a 27-9 lead. NYU rallied to within eight points twice in the second half, but went into the break trailing 43-33 as Maroons shot 59.3% (16-for-27) in the opening stanza.

Mish led the Violets, who eventually found their rhythm to shoot 45.2% (14-for-31) from the field in the first 20 minutes, with 11 points and six caroms in the first half.

Matt Corning added 14 points for Chicago, which shot 51.7% (30-for-58) from the floor. Jake Pancratz added 11 tallies, while Adam Machones finished with 10 points and eight caroms.

NYU shot 39.7% (25-for-63) from the field, but owned a 36-32 edge in a game where both teams combined for just 11 turnovers (7 NYU, 4 Chicago).

NYU concludes its two-game swing through the midwest with a noon (Central Standard Time) tilt at Washington University in St. Louis.
