Senior guard Charlie Parker scored six of his 13 points during a 16-0 second-half outburst, leading the New York University men's basketball team to a 79-67 victory over Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action Sunday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.

Sophomore forward Keith Jensen led the Violets (12-6, 3-4 UAA) with a game-high 20 points to go with six boards, a career-high five steals and four assists, as NYU put four players in double digits while shooting 50.9% (27-for-53) from the floor. Junior center John Mish produced 13 of his 17 points in the second half, and also snared seven rebounds, while freshman forward Richie Polan also tallied 17 on 6-for-7 shooting (4-for-5 3FG).

However, it took an extended defensive stand by the Violets to finish this UAA road trip 2-0 as they held the Spartans (7-11, 0-7 UAA) pointless for a decisive stretch of 6:01. After Kevin Herring (team-high 18 points) hit a bucket with 7:47, Case Western Reserve missed eight straight across that span and ended up shooting just 39.3% (24-for-61) from the field despite hitting 12 of its 27 three-point attempts (44.4%).

Conversely, NYU shot 50.9% (27-for-53) from the field, including a sizzling 60.9% (14-for-23) over the final 20 minutes, in improving to 3-1 in UAA road games.

Despite a strong shooting start by the Violets, it was the Spartans who rattled off 13 of the first half's final 16 points to take a 40-34 lead into the locker room. Polan produced 11 points and Jensen netted 10 to lead NYU in the opening stanza, while Herring led all first-half scorers with 12 tallies for Case Western Reserve.

Colin Mulholland canned five three-pointers and finished with 15 points and four assists in 19 minutes off the pine for the Spartans, while also got 13 points from Mason Conrad and 10 from Steve Young.

"Offensively I thought we executed well in the first half, I thought we just needed to to tighten things up in the second half," NYU head coach Joe Nesci said. "We got a lot of deflections and steals, and started scoring after we were turning them over."

Also for NYU, freshman guard D.J. Glavan finished with nine points, while sophomore guard Omar Meziab dished out a team-high five assists and snared four rebounds. Sophomore forward Zachary Kuba grabbed five rebounds and played strong defense to bolster the Violets' successful comeback bid.

The Violets return to action Friday, Feb. 8, for a home rematch with Case Western Reserve at 8 p.m. The game at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center will be a "Tear It Up!" event with free food and t-shirts provided to the NYU student body.
